Grand and change
Thursday, November 13th, 2003Following my Thursday afternoon Sociology of Healthcare class, I rode back to my apartment to pick up my real bike and head out for what would be just another 20 mile trip around Davis. As I pedaled out past the south end of campus and headed east for the first part of the loop, I flicked through my bike computer’s settings: average speed, trip distance, timer, maximum speed and odometer. I flipped through again, this time stopping on the odometer setting to make sure I saw it right. Within six miles of the beginning of today’s ride, I would surpass the one thousand mile mark on my ride. Now, I realize real bikers put a couple thousand miles on their bikes every year but gimme a break, I just started.
I rejoiced be eating a very tasty PB&J sandwich while I picked an amazing number of spiderwebs off my jersey and bike. Note to self: never ride without sunglasses, even if it seems like it’s too dark to wear them.
