I’ve missed you, Santa Barbara.

Usenet is a dirty, dirty place

Saturday, March 20th, 2004

A few weeks ago Dave Chapelle did a sketch called something like “What if the Internet was a real place?”. It featured Dave walking around a shady building and being offered sexual pictures, loan advice, viagra and online gambling. Bottom line: it was hi-larious. Extra bonus: Ron Jeremy had a cameo.

I should of kept this sketch in mind when I signed up for EasyNews, a usenet service. I thought I could dig up some decent indie and hardcore on their binary newsgroups. Within an hour of signing up, I wrote to EasyNews, saying I wanted a refund because A) newsgroups are filled with porn and B) is Autumn to Ashes all the world of usenet has to offer?

I guess this is what I get for trying to jump on a technology bandwagon that started rolling about twenty years ago.
