The graduation ceremony debate
Sunday, April 30th, 2006In keeping with a theme of a-post-a-day-until-graduation, I have decided to write about the impending date: June 17, 2006. On that day I will find myself at some large auditorium somewhere on the UC Davis campus, with a few friends and family watching from audience.
Or will I?
The more I think about it, the more I’d rather just relax with friends around town, or work on packing up for my trip to Russia, or maybe even drive back to Santa Barbara. As a sociology major (with a penchant for taking a few too many science classes) I will certainly find myself embedded in a throng of other Letters & Sciences graduates, all eagerly (and/or drunkly) awaiting their fake diploma. On the upside, I guess the traditional aspect of the ceremony would be nice but with so much schooling ahead of me, I don’t see one little A.B. commencement as such a big deal.
