The world is a sad, sad place when people actually need this book.

This doesn’t look right. And here is the reason why it doesn’t.

In other news, I’m still waiting to get the final decision from SFSU regarding my post-bac program there next year. On top of that, I’ve only got 33 days until graduation and then it’s off to the Leningrad St. Petersburg.

Sunglasses, thorns, cacti and “truthiness”

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

It’s been a busy week (or a few days, but whose counting). I haven’t written because I’ve been busy with school, MAAR stuff and a little freaking out about my post-graduation plans. That being said, I feel the need to get things up to speed.

On Saturday, April 29th, the White House hosted it’s annual Correspondants Dinner. It’s usually a time for the press to make fun of one another and the administration, but this year Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report gave the main speech. Let’s just say this guy is pretty much my new hero. Go watch the video of Colbert dishing out some of his “truthiness” over at Crooks & Liars.

On Sunday I headed out to Arden Faire which is essentially a huge, ugly mall in the middle of Sacramento. Hadas came along for the ride so she could get her broken iPod fixed, while I picked up a few things using a gift card I got a month or so ago. We even had time to stop at Forever 21, which is quite possibly the worst retailer in the entire universe. They do have some pretty hot sunglasses, though.

Monday was pretty lame but Tuesday got better with a greenhouse tour for my plant biology class. The tour guide was a little socially awkward, but there were some nice flowers and lots of thorns. In the cactus room I managed to know over this one but thankfully I caught it. Twice.

On Wednesday MAAR signed its first constitution, outlining the purpose of the organization and officially delineating who is and who is not a member. I’m excited for the direction that the club will take in the future, even though I won’t be around to see it happen. Sam (the new president of MAAR) and I celebrated by going to the DC, thanks to Alex and the huge number of swipes he has accumulated over the last two quarters. Sam loves DC pizza. A lot.

Time after Time

Monday, May 1st, 2006

I’m currently enrolled in BIS 101: Genes and Gene Expression which meets twice a week in the basement of Wellman Hall. The 110 minute lecture is broken into halves with a five minute break in the middle, during which time the professor talks to students individually while others stretch, complete the crossword or take a quick nap.

Today, Professor Rodriguez played a little music during the break, selecting “Time After Time”. Only after the music started did I look up and notice that he had an entire iTunes playlist devoted to different versions of that song (nine in all), which was appropriately named “Time After Time”.

I’m strongly considering going to office hours just to ask him what makes this Cyndi Lauper song so intriguing to him.
